Rediscovering the Joy of Real Mail
In a world buzzing with texts, emails, and endless notifications, it’s easy to overlook the quiet power of a handwritten card. But here’s the thing: when we check the mail each day, we’re not hoping for another bill or a flyer from the local pizza place.
We’re hoping for something personal.
A brightly colored envelope. A familiar name. A little moment of connection tucked into an ordinary Tuesday.
A Handmade Card Is a Hug in an Envelope
I can’t tell you how often I stand over the trash can, sorting through junk mail, catalogs, and campaign ads. The bills go in the basket. The garbage gets tossed. But the moment I spot something handwritten—especially if it looks handmade—it goes straight to the top of the pile.
I open it first.
I smile.
I feel seen.
Because someone took the time to make something just for me.
When a card is handmade, it carries even more heart. It says, “I didn’t just think of you—I made time for you.” That sentiment is rare these days, and it’s one of the reasons I believe so deeply in what I do.
The Cards She Kept
When my mother-in-law passed away unexpectedly four years ago, we found something that moved us deeply: a box filled with every card I had ever sent her. Neatly organized, lovingly kept. I knew she hung up the newer ones—we’d see them on our visits—but I hadn’t realized she had kept all of them.
She cherished every note.
She loved being remembered.
She made sure to tell me when a card arrived.
And she was a card-sender herself. While hers weren’t handmade, they were filled with handwritten notes—sometimes entire updates on slips of paper tucked inside. I’ve kept many of hers too, and now that she’s gone, those cards are even more precious.

It’s Not Just for Family—It’s for Everyone
This isn’t just a “family thing.” I send cards to my business colleagues too—for birthdays, anniversaries, thank-yous, or just to say “thinking of you.” Every time I do, it strengthens our connection. And it works both ways—I’ve been blessed to receive cards from my fellow biz owners that left me feeling truly appreciated.
I even host classes where we gather to create cards together—often using easy kits that make it fun and stress-free. These classes aren’t just about crafting. They’re about helping women send love, encouragement, and positivity into the world.
Connection Is a Gift
In this fast-paced, digital world, a card is a pause. A card is presence. A card is a reminder that we’re not alone.
And when that card is handmade?
It becomes a keepsake.
